NBA Trade Deadline Looms

With the NBA trade deadline just days away, many names will be shuffled about with very little action expected. But it is the possibilities that wet the imagination. Names on the trading front include Jason Kidd, Chris Webber, Lamar Odom, Bobby Jackson, Gary Payton, Carlos Boozer, Baron Davis, Michael Redd, Peja Stojakavic, Latrell Sprewell and Ray Allen.

King of the Dunk

As we approach the NBA’s All Star weekend the fans are left wondering whether designated NBA savior LeBron James will go for the hat trick (that’s the closest we will come to hockey this year) and participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. LeBron is already slated to play in Friday’s Rookie game and will start in Sunday’s All Star game.

Saturday will mark the 29 anniversary of the Slam Dunk contest. The first dunk-off took place in Denver as well as Julius “Dr. J” Erving defeated David Thompson in the finals. The Doctor secured victory with the infamous foul line dunk. The same move has been completed twice more by Michael “Air” Jordan in the 1980s and Brent “Bones” Barry in the 1990s. And both times the result was the Dunk Trophy.

Entering this years dunk contest is a relatively anonymous group of players. Backups and rookies have replaced the star power that the dunk contest once retained. No longer are first team All Star’s Jordan and Dominique “The Human Highlight Film” Wilkins competing for the championship but rather Chris Andersen and Josh Smith. No Spud Webb but a J.R. Smith. The lone star in the group is Amare Stoudemire who does remind us of a young Shawn Kemp in All Star form.

Bash Brother Bashes Brother

Canseco and McGuire were the most feared one-two punch of the late 80s and early 90s. But now the former Bash Brothers are at odds as Canseco plan to release his biography on Monday, February 14, 2005.

Canseco covers a wide range of topics but most notably names names. Canseco claims that he taught McGuire, Jason Giambi, Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro, and Juan Gonzalez how to inject steroids. Furthermore, Canseco states that President George W. Bush, a former part owner of the Texas Rangers, was well aware of the steroid use on his team.

Who Will Win the Super Bowl

We are mere hours away from the 39th edition of the Super Bowl. There is so much riding on this game and so many questions being tossed around:

Will Terrell Owens play?

Are the New England Patriots a dynasty?

Is Tom Brady an all-time great?

Is this the Patriots last run as they will lose offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel after the season?

Has Freddie Mitchell got as much press as possible for a player who only caught 22 passes during the regular season?

Will Paul McCartney one up Janet Jackson now that Michael Powell is stepping down from his position at the FCC?

And of course, who will win Super Bowl XXXIX?

Ranking Brady

Being placed in comparison with your childhood sports hero is an accomplishment all by itself. If your sports hero happens to be the greatest to ever play the game, it becomes that much more of an accomplishment.

On Sunday, Tom Brady hopes to join a very limited club of three quarterbacks that have led their team to at least three Super Bowl championships. Leading the way is Joe Montana who won four Super Bowls in nine seasons. Like many of Brady’s generation, it was Joe who was poster-ized on our walls and emulated in our driveways. Brady had that poster and now is emulating in football’s biggest game.

Tiger Woods Wins - The PGA Tour Preview

Much has been made of Tiger Woods inability to win recently. It has been two years since Tiger won a Major, a year and half since he won a stroke play tournament and just plain not the Tiger of old. Critics are even pointing to Tiger’s win last weekend in the Buick Invitational as un-Tiger-esque.

Yet that appears to be far from the truth. Tiger overcame a two shot deficit with just six holes to play. When Tigers closest competitors could not break par on Sunday, Tiger shot a 68. And while Tiger’s second shot on the 72nd hole can be best described as amateur-ish as it fell 20 yards short and 20 yards right, lucky breaks have always been a part of golf.

Super Bowl Bound - Eagles v. Patriots

They were the two best teams at the beginning of the season and now they are headed to Jacksonville to face one another in the Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles were clearly the class of the NFC and the New England Patriots, though challenged on paper by the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers, are the champs for a reason.

So in less than two weeks we will all witness the two best teams of this millennium face off against one another. Over the past four years the Eagles and Pats have reached seven Conference Championship games and five Super Bowls. Not too shabby.

Over the coming days several issues will come to the forefront. Here is the top four…

Hello Fellow Sports Fans:

My name is Keith Dobkowski and I am the creator of the sports news website legalball.com. Legalball.com was founded almost a year ago with three distinct purposes.

First, I wanted to create a sports website that covered more than most other sports news providers could. Every other sports site, sports paper or sports news show was focusing solely on what was going on, yet never explaining why. For instance, when Kobe Bryant was charged with rape, other sports news agencies were only covering what was happening to Kobe. Legalball.com took it one step further by explaining why Kobe was arrested. It was not until Legalball.com published an article outlining research that proved that NBA players who did not earn a college degree had a 40% chance of being arrested. This same strategy was applied to NBA trades that saw Shaquille O'Neal, Tracy McGrady and Steve Francis change teams. It was applied to Pat Tillman's sacrifice, Tiger Woods' equipment, Ron Artest attacking a fan, Steroids in Major League Baseball and dozens of other topics.

Legalball.com has not been afraid of seeking out intelligent sports fans but rather wants to create a welcoming atmosphere where those who desire to know more about their favorite team or player. And thus the second purpose behind the creation of legalball.com.

Legalball.com was created to give you a voice on sports news. Specifically, why do you believe an issue has occured to your favorite sport, team or player? At our published sports writer page, others are given the opportunity to write articles and have their thoughts published. So far pieces have been published on Mike Tyson and media bias, Keynon Marathon Runners and their winning tradition, and the internal connection to a sports franchise.
